As your research has brought you here there's a good chance that either you want to get into networking and the MCSE has reared its head, or you're currently an IT professional and it's apparent that you can't get any further without a qualification such as MCSE.

Be sure you prove conclusively that your training company is supplying you with the latest version from Microsoft. Many trainees get frustrated when they realise they've been learning from an old version of MCSE which inevitably will have to be up-dated. Watch out for training colleges who are just trying to sell you something. Understand that buying a course for an MCSE is like buying a car. They're very diverse; some are reliable and will get you there in comfort, whilst some will be completely unreliable. A conscientious organisation will give you a thorough consultation to be sure the course will work for you. When providers are proud of their courses, you'll be able to see a sample of what you're getting before you buy.

Each programme of learning must provide a nationally accepted certification as an end-result - and not some unimportant 'in-house' piece of paper. Only fully recognised accreditation from the likes of Microsoft, Adobe, CompTIA and Cisco will mean anything to employers.

If you're like many of the students we talk to then you've always enjoyed practical work - the 'hands-on' type. Usually, the trial of reading reference books and manuals is something you'll make yourself do if you have to, but you really wouldn't enjoy it. You should use video and multimedia based materials if you'd really rather not use books. Our ability to remember is increased when we use multiple senses - educational experts have expounded on this for many years.

Programs are now found in disc format, so everything is learned directly from your own PC. Through video streaming, you can watch instructors demonstrating how to perform the required skill, with some practice time to follow - via the interactive virtual lab's. All companies should willingly take you through samples of their training materials. You're looking for evidence of tutorial videos and demonstrations and a variety of interactive modules.

Go for physical media such as CD or DVD ROM's every time. This then avoids all the potential pitfalls with broadband outages, failure and signal quality issues etc.
